Canterbury is a diverse region with the sea, plains and mountains, encompassing not only Christchurch but from Kaikoura in the north to the Rangitata River, and as far west as Arthur's Pass, with a population of more than 420, 000 people.
Community and Public Health operates two offices in Christchurch. The Main Office in Chester Street East has over 90 staff working in a variety of areas, with the largest number involved in chronic disease and alcohol related harm prevention in a number of settings including workplaces, educational settings and communities, especially Mäori and other ethnic groups, as well as areas of low socio-economic status. See the About Us, and Careers pages for more information.
Staff with a predominantly Maori health focus are based at the Manchester Office, which includes Aukati Kaipaipa, Clubmark, and Te Wharetangata programmes. More information on these initiatives and the work of these staff is outlined on the Maori Health page or the relevant subject pages.
