Public health surveillance is the ongoing, systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of data on specific health events for use in the planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programmes.
The notification system is an integral part of this in which Doctors report to the local Medical Officer of Health when they diagnose a disease notifiable under the Health Act. During the months of May to October, the incidence of Influenza is also monitored.
